WASHINGTON, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Republicans will release their updated "Contract with America" in Virginia this week, less than two months before Election Day, insiders said.
The contract, modeled after the 1994 document credited with helping Republicans sweep into power in the House in 1994, is meant to highlight what the party would represent if it were returned to power in Congress in November.
Republican House and Senate members are reviewing the election-year elements of the contract from its "America Speaking Out" effort before debuting it Thursday, The Hill reported Monday.
GOP leaders already hinted at some of the talking points to be included, including a two-year freeze in tax rates and a reduction in spending to 2008 levels, the Washington publication reported.
President Obama and Democratic leaders said they want to extend most tax cuts enacted in during George W. Bush's administration, but would let expire this year cuts for families earning more $250,000 annually and individuals who earn more than $200,000 a year.
