The jewellery shop robbery that never was

An unidentified Asian man used a paper cutter to steal more than KD3,000 (Dh37,000) from a jewellery shop in Kuwait. But such a robbery has never happened as the presumed victim turned out to be the thief.
A Lebanese worker at the shop in a large shopping mall told police early this week that the assailant waved the knife before her eyes and threatened to slash her neck unless she opened the safe.
The woman said the thief entered the shop just after she opened it early morning, when most other shops were still shut and no security men were present.
“After interrogation, police did not believe her story as it was not convincing. There was no security camera and the supposed knife had no fingerprints on it, which means she removed them,” Alanba newspaper said on Wednesday.
The 40-year-old woman later confessed to stealing the money to support her jobless Kuwaiti boyfriend, the paper added.
