More Pakistani villages underwater

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Breaches in Pakistan's largest freshwater lake have flooded 75 villages in southern Sindh Province and displaced thousands of residents, the government says.

Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority said Wednesday nearly 1.5 million people are living in relief camps in the province after eight breaches developed along Manchar Lake embankments, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported.

To date, more than a million homes have been damaged or destroyed in Sindh and nearly 1.5 million people are now living in thousands of relief camps in the province.

The International Organization for Migration says 95 percent of emergency shelter needs in the province have not been met due to lack of access.

IOM medical staff said growing health problems among flood victims include skin disorders, respiratory tract infections, malaria and gastroenteritis.
