CAIRO, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict would put the Middle East "on a new track" and help solve other regional issues, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said.
Speaking at a ceremony Sunday, Mubarak reiterated Egypt's commitment to peace talks, which are now in progress, and to helping the Palestinians achieve their goal, the Maan news agency said Monday.
The Egyptian leader described the goal as a "just and honorable peace that attains security for all sides, ends occupation, puts the Middle East on a new track and establishes an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital," the agency quoted him as saying.
Mubarak expressed concern for what he described as "new threats" to stability in the region, the agency said.
