There is no solution in sight to BlackBerry’s standoff with the Indian government, according to Indian media reports.
Telecom providers are not likely to meet Wednesday’s deadline for a technology upgrade that will enable interception of all BlackBerry services, as the government wants them to, simply because they don’t know how to related stories
On September 16, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) sent a notice to all telecom service providers, asking them to install technical capability in their networks by September 22, by which BlackBerry services could be intercepted by security agencies (to monitor possible terror-related activity).
“We have not been provided with any solution to intercept enterprise emails by the company,” said a Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd official. “We have nothing to upgrade. We have no compliance to give to DoT”.
“There is no forward movement on intercepting enterprise mails,” said an MTNL official. “Things stand just as they were before the DoT issued their notice”.
Bharti Airtel also did not confirm whether it would install any facility for intercepting enterprise emails by Wednesday. Despite repeated attempts, Research In Mobile (RIM), the company that owns BlackBerry did not comment either.
