Official: Blast targeting Pakistan police barracks kills at least 20

Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) -- An explosion apparently targeting a police barracks in Pakistan's northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday left at least 20 people dead, including nine women and two children, a Kohat district government official said.
Khalid Khan Umarzai told CNN that at least 55 others were injured in the blast, which he said was caused by a remotely controlled car bomb made up of an estimated 200 kilograms (441 pounds) of explosives.
The explosion damaged at least 25 buildings in the compound, Umarzai said.
The blast came hours after a Taliban spokesman announced that the group was responsible for a suicide attack Monday targeting a police station in Lakki Marwat district in the North West Frontier Province that left 17 dead.
Pakistani Taliban spokesman Ihsan Ullah Ihsan told CNN on Tuesday that Pakistani law enforcement agencies, as well as U.S. forces, were enemies of the Taliban.
