PACE calls for thorough probe into Ukrainian journalist disappearance

The Ukrainian authorities should conduct a thorough investigation into the disappearance of journalist Vasyl Klymentyev, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) president said on Tuesday.
Klymentyev, chief editor and reporter for the weekly newspaper Noviy Stil, went missing on August 11. He was last seen leaving his home in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkov with an unknown man in a BMW.
"The freedom of the media is one of the best indicators of the state of democracy," Mevlut Cavusoglu said. "Therefore the authorities must take concrete steps to respond to allegations about possible state pressure on the media and, in particular, properly investigate the disappearance of Kharkov Journalist Klymentyev".
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych is personally overseeing the investigation.
