MAPUTO, Mozambique, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- At least three people were killed in Mozambique's capital Wednesday during a demonstration by thousands of residents against rising prices, police said.
Residents from poor neighborhoods in Maputo took to the streets smashing shop windows and cars to protest the high cost of oil, wheat, bread, water and electricity, Radio France Internationale reported.
The demonstrators barricaded the capital's main streets, the road to the airport and roads to a major suburb.
Police fired rubber bullets at the crowd.
