EVANSTON, Ill., Oct. 7 (UPI) -- A top Democratic congressional aide blocked access to his Twitter page after calling foes of the planned Islamic center near New York's Ground Zero "dumba**es".
Alex Armour, political director and campaign manager of Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill., "has protected their tweets," a United Press International check of Armour's account found Thursday.
His message on the social networking and microblogging service, first reported by conservative National Review blogger Jim Geraghty, said opponents of the community center and mosque were "all f***ing dumba**es who havent read the 1st amndmt" -- although Armour didn't use asterisks.
Schakowsky challenger Joel Pollak, a 33-year-old Skokie, Ill., lawyer, said he thought Armour's message showed Schakowsky's campaign had "an intolerant attitude toward people with different views, as well as contempt for those who disagree," the Daily Herald of Arlington Heights, Ill., reported.
Pollak, a Democrat-turned-Republican, posted a link to the Herald's story on his own Twitter page under the headline, "Jan Schakowsky's contempt for her constituents," UPI's check found.
