Mnet’s Asian Music Awards (MAMA) event is coming to Macau on November 28, according to music website allkpop.com.
“We will not be sparing anything in order to make sure that MAMA successfully becomes Asia’s main music festival. We want to develop the power of Asian music to surpass the Grammys,” Mnet representatives were quoted as saying.
Mnet representatives explained that they made the decision to hold the ceremony in Macau, because ”[Macau] is straightforward with culture and has a nice performance infrastructure, making it easier to closely converse with fans of Asian music”.
“With Korean pop music being the leaders of Asia’s music market, representatives of Macau are anticipating a lot from Mnet as well,” the representative said.
“Just like the influence that the American Grammy awards has on the entire Western market, we hope to develop the MAMA in order to influence the global Asian music market,” Mnet CEO Park Kwang Won said.
The 2010 MAMA will announce the nominations along with specific judging guidelines on October 28.
