'Hiccup girl' charged in fatal robbery

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Oct. 25 (UPI) -- A Florida teenager who gained global attention in 2007 for her unstoppable hiccups is now charged with murder, authorities said.

Jennifer Ann Mee, 19, of St. Petersburg allegedly lured Shannon Griffin, 22, to a house where he was attacked and shot dead Saturday by two men, police told the St. Petersburg Times.

Mee, Laron Raiford, 20, and Lamont Newton, 22, are all charged with first-degree murder in the killing, which police say began as a robbery.

After Mee brought Griffin to the house, Raiford and Newton menaced him with a gun and tried to rob him, police allege. Investigators said Griffin was shot several times in his upper body as he struggled.

All three suspects admitted their involvement, police allege.

Mee's hiccups started in January 2007 and lasted nearly six weeks. At one point, she was hiccupping 50 times a minute and couldn't attend school.
