Kaymer has mountain to climb despite McDowell's late lapse

(CNN) -- Martin Kaymer needs to overturn a nine-shot deficit in Sunday's final round of the Andalucia Masters if he is to stop Lee Westwood from becoming golf's new No. 1 player.
The German carded his best round of the week in Spain with a one-under-par 70 on Saturday as he bids to be the player who finally ends Tiger Woods' 281-week reign.
But, needing to finish in the top two to head off injured No. 2 Westwood, he still has a mountain to climb despite a late lapse from halfway leader Graeme McDowell.
The U.S. Open champion was caught at the top after a double-bogey in his final hole of the third round, which left him signing for a 72 to be level with Gareth Maybin on six-under 207.
