Man charged with raping, killing student

DEKALB, Ill., Oct. 30 (UPI) -- A man has been charged in the rape and killing of a freshman at Northern Illinois University, authorities said.

William Curl, 34, of DeKalb, is charged with first-degree murder, criminal sexual assault and arson, DeKalb County State's Attorney John Farrell said Friday.

He would not give details on how Antinette "Toni" Keller, an 18-year-old art student from Plainfield, died, the Chicago Tribune reported.

DeKalb Police Chief Bill Feithen told the Tribune the victim and suspect had no known connection.

Keller told friends Oct. 14 she was going to Prairie Park to do some sketching. They reported her missing the next day.

Police found burned human remains in the park Oct. 16, near some of Keller's belongings. The remains have not been positively identified.
