Former World No. 1 Maria Sharapova of Russia is engaged to Los Angeles Lakers basketball player Sasha Vujacic, the TMZ.com celebrity news web site said on Friday.
27-year old Slovenian Vujacic and Sharapova have been dating for about a year. However Sharapova revealed their romance only this summer during Roland Garros 2010.
Vujacic said he had proposed to her at the anniversary of their first meeting at a friend's party. He did not reveal the date of the wedding.
Sharapova, 23, became an overnight tennis sensation at the age of 17 when she won Wimbledon, and quickly showed her business acumen by signing lucrative contracts with the global brands Canon, Motorola, Tiffany, Land Rover, and Colgate-Palmolive.
In August Forbes magazine named Sharapova the world's highest-paid female athlete.
