(CNN) -- Six bullet-ridden bodies were found Friday near Acapulco, Mexico, state-run news agency Notimex reported.
The bodies were discovered early in the morning on the main road between Acapulco and Chilpancingo, in the town of Tunzingo, according to Notimex.
Acapulco is a beach resort city on the Pacific Coast known for its night life.
Authorities, who have not yet identified the bodies, have launched an investigation, Notimex reported. The six people were killed where they were found, the agency said, citing police.
According to authorities, more than 28,000 people have died in Mexico in drug-related violence since 2006.
