Mexican police seek man in party shooting

JUAREZ, Mexico, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Officials in Mexico's Chihuahua state say they're looking for a man nicknamed "Rat" who may have been the target of a shooting in Juarez that killed 14 people.

The state's general, Carlos Salas, said Monday investigators want to question the man -- who may have been injured in Friday's massacre -- about possible suspects, the El Paso (Texas) Times reported.

The attack occurred during a party in Juarez that may have been for an El Paso boy celebrating his birthday, witnesses told Mexican newspapers. Officials, however, haven't confirmed the information.

Witnesses told police the attackers were young men who opened fire after asking for someone named "Rat," the El Paso paper said. The victims were ages 11 to 30.

The Mexican Federal Police and federal Attorney General's Office were called in to assist in the investigation, Chihuahua officials said.
