North Korean leader Kim Jong-il's youngest son, who was made a general last week, oversaw live-fire military exercises with his father on Tuesday, the Yonhap news agency reported.
Before his appointment as general, Kim Jong-un, who is believed to be being groomed to take over from his 68-year-old father, had never been mentioned in the secretive country's official press.
Little is known of the Swiss-educated heir apparent, apart from the fact that he is thought to be in his mid-20s.
