One killed, 10 injured in Baghdad violence

(CNN) -- A roadside bomb in Baghdad killed one and wounded eight others Monday, according to Iraq's interior ministry. In a separate incident, a mortar round wounded two people.
Baghdad City Councilman Jasim Ali Mahmoud died when a roadside bomb went off near his convoy in the Nadha neighborhood of central Baghdad. Two of the eight wounded were Mahmoud's body guards, according to the interior ministry.
A mortar struck near the "14th of July" suspension bridge in Baghdad's center Monday morning wounding two more, the interior ministry said. The bridge connects eastern Baghdad with the Green Zone and spans the Tigris River.
The Green Zone, formally known as the International Zone, houses Iraqi government offices and the U.S. Embassy.
