Vettel earns ninth pole of season in Korea; Schumacher escapes penalty

(CNN) -- Sebastian Vettel has claimed pole position for Sunday's inaugural Korean Grand Prix ahead of Red Bull teammate and F1 championship leader Mark Webber, while Michael Schumacher was told off for another incident involving longtime rival Rubens Barrichello.
Vettel claimed his ninth pole of the season on Saturday as both drivers made late runs to overtake Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, who like the German trails Webber by 14 points with three races left.
Another title contender, Lewis Hamilton, will start fourth on the grid but McLaren teammate Jenson Button's hopes of retaining his crown dwindled further as he qualified seventh behind Mercedes' Nico Rosberg and Ferrari's Felipe Massa.
Red Bull's drivers have now claimed 14 poles from 17 races, with Vettel clocking one minute 35.585 seconds to displace Alonso then Australian Webber posting 1:35.659 in a two-lap run to also overtake the Spaniard's 1:35.766.
