ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- World Bank officials said $430 million in credit was approved to help Pakistan rebuild from flooding that inundated the country in recent months.
The World Bank said $300 million in credit will help pay for shipments of food, medicine, tents, fuel and machinery and another $130 million credit line will help repair the country's highway system, Pakistan's English-language newspaper Dawn News reported Friday.
"The credit is part of the first phase of the World Bank's strategy to assist with flood recovery in Pakistan," Rachid Benmessaoud, World Bank country director for Pakistan, said.
The World Bank said the funds were part of its $1 billion commitment to Pakistan this fiscal year.
