11 dead in Vietnam floods

HANOI, Vietnam, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- At least 11 people have died and several others are missing following heavy rains and flooding in central Vietnam, the government said Wednesday.

Vietnam's Ministry of Defense said it has mobilized 172 more soldiers to assist with the flood response in affected provinces.

More than 11,186 households have been evacuated so far while estimates of the number of homes damaged by flooding is near 37,000.

The government said average rainfall in the past two days has ranged from 5.9 inches to 11.8 inches.

Forecasters said in the next 24 hours flood levels are expected to slowly decrease in Thua Thien Hue and Quang Nam but will keep rising in Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh.
