KABUL, Afghanistan, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Afghan forces ordered a Saudi Arabia-bound airplane back to the Kabul International Airport and arrested a suspected arms dealer, military officials said.
Three other suspected insurgents traveling with the suspected weapons facilitator also were detained, the International Security Assistance Forces said Tuesday in a release.
Afghan National Security Forces boarded the plane and arrested the suspect without incident, ISAF said.
The suspect, a member of the insurgent Haqqani network, was wanted for supplying weapons and ammunition used in attacks against Afghan and coalition forces and participating in "numerous" attacks against the forces, the ISAF said.
Afghanistan's intelligence agency, the National Directorate of Security, offered a different account of the incident, saying only one person was arrested, The New York Times reported.
Both statements indicated the suspect was under investigation but provided no explanation about how he could board an international flight in Kabul, the Times said. Major foreign passenger airlines don't fly into Afghanistan because of concerns about airport security.
