Bulgarians Shrink by 1,4 Million for 25 Years

The number of Bulgarians, living in the country, has decreased by 1,4 million in the last 25 years, the Bulgarian National Radio has reported.
According to the data, which is based on national statistics, the total number ofBulgarians living in the country is 7,563,710 and one third of them live in villages.
For the last 2 years, the number of villages has decreased by 81, while the number of cities has increased by 18.
Out of the 10 cities that had more than 100,000 residents 25 years ago, now only seven have remained and Sliven, Dobrich and Shumen have been dropped.
Sofia remains the largest city, having 1,165,503 residents, followed by Plovdiv andVarna.
The statistics also show that in three Bulgarian regions, Kardzhali, Razgrad and Silistra, the people who live in villages outnumber the people who live in towns and cities.
In all 28 provinces, women outnumber men.
