Calif. plane crash kills at least three

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Nov. 22 (UPI) -- At least three people were killed in the crash of a small plane off Newport Beach in Southern Californai, police said.

Police said they think the Beechcraft Musketeer was headed for Torrance, Calif., from Mexico when it crashed into the water Sunday evening, the Los Angeles Times reported.

"Whether or not we have more victims, I don't know," Newport Beach Police Sgt. Steve Burdette said.

Burdette said the pilot knew there was a problem and radioed ahead, asking for permission to land in a street. He said police were clearing the area of traffic when the plane went down in a mud flat in Back Bay.

Police didn't identify the victims but said the plane was registered to Palos Verdes real estate agent Chuck Chambers.
