Female serial killer in Urals faces 'sanity test' before trial

A Russian woman accused of robbing and murdering at least 17 female pensioners in the Sverdlovsk Region will undergo a psychological evaluation in Moscow, investigators said Monday.
The 39-year-old suspected killer was arrested in June after allegedly terrorizing elderly women in the cities of Krasnoufimsk, Serov and Yekaterinburg for eight years.
According to investigators, the woman offered to help elderly victims with household tasks to earn their trust and entry to their homes. She then clubbed the victims to death with blows to the head and stole their money and valuables.
The suspect, a mother of two children, is facing life in prison if convicted.
Investigators said she had already confessed to her crimes.
A psychological evaluation is a standard procedure during the investigation of a serious crime in Russia.
