ISAF accuses insurgents of 'hypocrisy'

KABUL, Afghanistan, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Insurgents in Afghanistan show "striking hypocrisy" when they blame civilian deaths on NATO forces, a military commander said Tuesday.

The International Security Assistance Force said that in October insurgents killed more than 100 people and injured more than 200, CNN reported.

"The insurgency continues to exhibit striking hypocrisy between their stated objective to protect civilian lives and their actions throughout Afghanistan," Rear Adm. Vic Beck said. "Their message simply does not match the reality that every day, insurgents are deliberately killing, injuring and intimidating Afghan civilians".

ISAF says insurgent attacks fall into four categories, with the largest being "indiscriminate violence," such as roadside bombs or firing randomly. Other attacks are aimed at the delivery of aid by targeting convoys and aid workers.

Fewer attacks involve "imposition of extremist ideology" such as using children as human shields and "oppressive tactics," including threatening elders or teachers who do not follow the Taliban's worldview.
