Margaret Thatcher, the former Conservative prime minister, is to be discharged from hospital this afternoon, her spokesman said today.
The former prime minister was admitted to the Cromwell hospital in west London on 20 October for tests after failing to shake off a bout of flu.
This had forced her to pull out of a Downing Street reception to mark her 85th birthday the previous week.
Her spokesman said she had now been given the all-clear by doctors.
David Cameron sent his "warmest wishes" to his predecessor for her return home.
The prime minister's spokeswoman said a new date would be found to celebrate Thatcher's birthday after she missed the last party. That gathering of around 150 friends and colleagues at No 10 went ahead at her insistence and she apologised for her absence in a message – quipping "the lady's not for returning".
Medical experts said the ex-premier was likely to have stayed at the private hospital for a "health MoT".
