Russia's top mobile phone operator Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) posted an 18 percent increase year-on-year in its January-September U.S. GAAP net profit to $1.209 billion, while third quarter net profit fell 5.7 percent on the previous year to $475.5 million, MTS said on Thursday.
The fall in third quarter net profit was due to falling interest profit from exchange rate differences and growing loan interest payments. MTS said.
The firm's third quarter revenue grew 10.8 percent year-on-year to $2.911 billion.
OIBDA rose 8.2% year-on-year in the third quarter to $1.309 billion.
MTS attributed the improved results to positive seasonal dynamics, subscriber additions and a general increase in usage in core markets.
