N.Y. attorney general sues former car czar in pay-to-play scandal

Associated Press

New York's attorney general is suing former Obama car czar Steven Rattner over his role in a "pay-to-play" scandal at the state pension fund.
In two suits filed Thursday, Attorney General Andrew Cuomo accuses Rattner of paying illegal kickbacks to help his private equity firm land a lucrative pension fund investment.
Cuomo is seeking at least $26 million from Rattner, and a lifetime ban from the securities industry.
Separately, the Securities Exchange Commission announced Thursday that Rattner had agreed to pay $6.2 million to settle similar charges.
A spokesman for the financier did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
