Polish town unveils giant Jesus statue

(CNN) -- A town in western Poland is hoping a giant statue of Jesus Christ officially unveiled Sunday will beat out Brazil's landmark sculpture of the religious figure.
Thousands of people attended the official consecration of the statue in Swiebodzin, Poland, state media reported.
The statue is 33 meters high -- one meter for every year the religious figure lived, the state-run Polish Press Agency said. A golden crown on top of the statue and the mound it sits on bring its height to 52.5 meters (172 feet), according to the agency.
That means the Swiebodzin's sculpture could set a record.
The famous Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is 38 meters (125 feet) tall, according to the Polish Press Agency. In 2007, it was named one of the "New 7 Wonders of the World" in an online poll.
