An African man and a woman committed suicide in separate incidents in Saudi Arabia just a day after arriving in the Gulf Kingdom to perform pilgrimage, the Saudi Arabic language online daily Sharq reported on Thursday.
The unidentified man, in his 40s, tied a rope around his neck and hanged himself from a power pylon in the holy city of Makkah, it said.
A few hours later, police found an African woman dead after falling off the 10th level of a hotel in Makkah, the paper said.
Relatives said the woman, aged over 50 years, went to the toilet in their hotel room and threw herself through the window.
“Police are still investigating the two incidents but preliminary results show they both were a suicide,” Sharq said.
