NEW YORK, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Five Columbia University students were arrested on the Ivy League campus in New York Tuesday and charged with peddling drugs, authorities said.
The five were among eight suspects taken into custody in the roundup of alleged drug traffickers, The New York Times reported.
The arrests were part of an undercover investigation called Operation Ivy League.
Police said officers bought nearly $11,000 in cocaine, marijuana, ecstasy, Adderall and LSD from the students since July, the Times reported. Most of the drug buys allegedly took place at three fraternities -- Alpha Epsilon Pi, Pi Kappa Alpha and Psi Upsilon.
Investigators said two of the students, Christopher Coles and Harrison David, both 20, said they were dealing drugs to pay tuition. The other students facing charges are Adam Klein, Stephan Vincenzo and Michael Wymbs, all 20.
The students were arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court and each pleaded not guilty. They were held until they made bond, which ranged from $30,000 to $75,000. UPI
