At least 7 killed in blasts targeting Iranian pilgrims


Baghdad (CNN) -- Seven people were killed Saturday morning in explosions targeting Iranian pilgrims in Baghdad, Iraq, police said.
At least 46 people were wounded in the blasts, Baghdad police said.
The first explosion hit a bus carrying Iranian pilgrims heading to the Imam Musa al-Kadhim shrine, kililng two people and wounding 28 others. A few minutes later, another car bomb and two roadside bombs blew up at a rest house popular with Iranian pilgrims in the Kadhimiya Shiite neighborhood, killing five people and wounding 18.
Thousands of Shia Muslim pilgrims, many of them Iranian, are visiting shrines across the country during the month of Muharram, which starts in a few days.
During the first 10 days of the month, Shiites commemorate the martyrdom of Hussein bin Ali, grandson of the prophet Mohammed and the third Imam of Shiite Muslims.
Separately Saturday, a car bomb exploded in an outdoor market in the Bayaa Shiite neighborhood in southwestern Baghdad. At least six people were killed and 42 others were wounded, Baghdad police said. CNN
