LONDON, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- British opinion of the European Union is worsening, and half of the people would vote to pull out if they had the chance, a poll finds.
Angus Reid Public Opinion reported Monday if Britain ever held a referendum on EU membership -- it has not -- 48 percent would vote to leave and only 27 percent to stay.
A majority of respondents said membership has been moderately negative (30 percent) or very negative (29 percent) for the United Kingdom.
Since June, the proportion who say the EU has been very positive fell 7 to 4 percent, and those calling it moderately positive from 31 to 25 percent.
A staunch 80 percent said the U.K. should keep the pound as its national currency.
Younger people were slightly friendlier to the EU than their elders, and Laborites and Liberal Democrat more so than Conservatives.
The online survey of 2,002 British adults was conducted Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 with a margin of error of 2.2 percentage points. UPI
