KANSAS CITY, Mo., Dec. 15 (UPI) -- A Kansas City, Mo., man has been arrested for abandoning his 6-year-old son at a bus stop in the cold, police said.
A woman saw the boy get out of a pickup truck around 4:15 p.m. Monday, The Kansas City Star reported. The truck then drove away.
She immediately told the boy he could sit in her vehicle, drove to a school and called police.
The boy told police his father could no longer care for him and he was to go live with his mother in California. The boy had packed his belongings, including clothes and a toothbrush.
His father left him at the bus stop and gave him papers he called the boy's "ticket," but they actually were unemployment documents, according to the police report.
An hour later, Clifton Williams Sr., 34, called police to report his son missing. He said his truck had broken down and he told his son to wait at the bus stop. Police cited him for child endangerment.
An uncle retrieved the boy from the police station. UPI
