Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has expressed his gratitude to the country's law enforcement agencies for investigating a series of bombings in Georgia.
Georgian police detained on Saturday six people on accusations of carrying out terrorist attacks against Georgia in the period between September and November. Two people believed to be involved in the attacks are still wanted. The ministry accused Russian military officer Yevgeny Borisov of ordering the attacks.
"We managed to avoid very serious terrorist attacks... I would like to thank our [security] agencies and our police for prompt reaction. I call on them to be even more active," Saakashvili told journalists ahead of his flight to Mexico where he will take part in a UN climate conference.
Among the attacks investigated by Georgian police are the September 22 explosions near the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi, the October 2 attack on a railroad in western Georgia, the October 21 blast at the Tbilissky rail station, and the most recent explosions on the outskirts of Tbilisi and near the headquarters of the Georgian opposition Labor party on November 28, which killed one woman.
