Sinkhole opens in China's Jiangxi Province

NANCHANG, China, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- More than 450 people were evacuated from an area in east China's Jiangxi Province after a sinkhole 150 feet wide and 15 feet deep opened, officials said.

Excessive salt mining caused the sinkhole, state-run Xinhua reported.

Villagers said they saw water shooting out of the ground, which had been fractured by cracks about 1,500 feet long.

No injuries were reported in Thursday's incident. UPI
