Belfast, Northern Ireland (CNN) -- Police in Mauritius say three men are expected to appear in court Wednesday in connection with the death of Michaela Harte-McAreavey, daughter of a leading Irish sports figure and wife of Gaelic football star John McAreavey.
The suspects are all employees of the luxury hotel where the 27-year-old newlywed was strangled to death on Monday, police in the Indian Ocean island said.
The men are expected to appear at Mapou District Court in northern Mauritius on Wednesday morning, a spokesman for the Mauritius Police Force said.
"The inquiries are progressing, and three people have been arrested," said Superintendent Yoosoof Soopun, who is leading the murder investigation. "We believe we have substantial evidence to connect them to the case".
Soopun said the three men were employees of the Legends Hotel, and authorities believe they were inside the teacher's hotel room when she returned alone.
"We presume they were inside and burgling the room when the lady returned and were surprised and attacked her," Soopun said.
Soopun said after the court appearance, the three will be in custody for a week and appear again after police complete the investigation.
