Kyrgyz parliament postpones naming mountain after Putin

Kyrgyzstan's parliament has deferred a planned vote on a bill to name a 4,500-meter mountain after Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
Kyrgyz Premier Almazbek Atambayev sanctioned the christening earlier this month, but Vladimir Putin Peak will only make its way on the map after the parliament's go-ahead.
The peak, which is 4,446 meters high, is in Chuy Province near the border with Kazakhstan.
The former KGB man joins a small clique of Russian leaders who also had mountains named in their honor.
Mount President Boris Yeltsin (3,500 meters) was named after Russia's first president in 2002.
Towering an impressive 7,134 meters on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border stands Lenin Peak, named after the leader of the Bolshevik Revolution in the 1920s.
Kyrgyzstan also has a mountain named after Santa Claus. RIA Novosti
