Miss Grenada's cat tortured in England

HUDDERSFIELD, England, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- A Miss Universe hopeful living in Britain says her cat was tortured by people jealous of her success.

Natalie Mitchell, 31, said she herself has experienced threatening calls and people throwing food and liquids at her, The Daily Telegraph reported. Then her cat, missing for three days, wandered into a neighbor's yard in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, with severe burns.

"My neighbor brought the cat to my house and the poor thing was so badly burned I didn't think it was her". Mitchell said. "But I said her name and she looked up, I couldn't believe it was her".

The cat had also lost an ear and several teeth. When she took it to a veterinarian, he said the cat had been burned with acid or a boiling hot liquid.

Mitchell, granddaughter of a Grenadian immigrant, was named Miss Grenada Commonwealth 2010. She told The Sun she only began entering contests two years ago and believes she has made some people jealous.

"I've had abusive messages on Facebook and was walking one day when a car pulled up and drink was thrown in my face," she said. UPI
