Bulgaria's top female tennis player Tsvetana Pironkova has climbed three spots in the update ranking of the Women's Tennis Association, and is now 33rd.
During her first tournament for 2011, in Hobart, Australia, Pironkova lost in the first round but she made it to the second round at Australian Open where she beat French world No. 103. Pauline Parmentier, and then lost to Romanian Monica Niculescu.
Pironkova is now 33rd in the WTA ranking with 1722 points. Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark is No. 1 with 8655 points, followed by Kim Clijsters of Belgium with 8515 points and Vera Zvonareva of Russia with 7405 points.
Pironkova, whose star began shining brightly when she reached the 2011Wimbledon women's singles semifinal, still has a long way to go to reach the achievements of the most successful Bulgarian female tennis player to date, Magdalena Maleeva, who in the mid 1996s was in world's top 10 for 60 weeks, reaching No. 4 in 1996.
