NEW YORK, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- A man found ailing on a New York subway platform during last week's blizzard has died of hypothermia and disease, the medical examiner's office said.
The name of the 66-year-old victim was not released but officials said they do not believe he was homeless, The New York Times reported Wednesday.
He may have been among hundreds of New Yorkers stranded when train service ground to a halt because of the snow.
Two people who spoke on condition of anonymity have told The Times federal prosecutors in Brooklyn are looking into allegations disgruntled sanitation workers sabotaged snowstorm cleanup efforts.
Leaders of the two unions that represent sanitation workers and supervisors along with the head of the sanitation department denied a slowdown occurred.
City officials said the major obstacle to cleaning up the snow last week was the large number of vehicles stuck in the middle of city streets preventing snow plows from getting through.
The inquiry, which began last week, is being conducted by the Public Integrity Section of the office of U.S. Attorney Loretta E. Lynch. UPI
