Torres under the spotlight as transfer deadline day begins

(CNN) -- Uruguay World Cup striker Luis Suarez has passed his medical at Liverpool as football's January transfer deadline day was set to be marked by a series of big money moves.
While Suarez moves to Anfield from Dutch giants Ajax, much of the media interest centered on Chelsea's bid to sign Liverpool's current star striker Fernando Torres.
The Spain World Cup striker handed in a transfer request Saturday, which was immediately rejected by Liverpool with a statement on their offcial website saying he should "honor the commitment" he made when he signed a five-year contract in 2009.
Torres arrived for morning training Monday at the club's Melwood facility with his future uncertain amid reports of a likely improved $75 million bid from reigning English Premier League Chelsea and player exchanges. CNN
