8 dead in Mexico City suburb attack

(CNN) -- Gunmen killed eight people in a drive-by attack on the outskirts of Mexico City, the state news agency reported Sunday.
The victims were six men and two women, Notimex reported. One man was injured, but survived, the news agency said, citing security officials.
The incident happened near the industrial suburb of Nezahualcoyotl.
It was not immediately clear who was behind the attack, though the area has seen a recent uptick in drug violence, according to the Mexican attorney general's office.
The Mexican government says there have been more than 34,600 drug-related deaths since President Felipe Calderon began a crackdown on cartels in December 2006. CNN
