NEW ORLEANS, March 1 (UPI) -- Police in Louisiana have filed obscenity charges against a fundamentalist New Orleans preacher accused of masturbating in a suburban park.
The Rev. Grant Storms, known for his bullhorn protests at the Southern Decadence festival, was arrested after two women told police they saw a man masturbating in the driver's seat of a van parked near an area where children played at Lafreniere Park, The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune reported.
Storms, 53, said he was having lunch at the park Friday when he decided to urinate in a bottle rather than use the restroom, the police report said.
He was released from the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna on Sunday because of jail overcrowding.
A self-styled "Christian patriot," Storms hosted a local radio show and led a small congregation called The Reformer Church for 10 years.
He was best known for arming his followers with bullhorns, Bibles and picket signs to protest a yearly gay festival held in the French Quarter. UPI
