New Delhi (CNN) -- India's federal police Monday arrested the chief organizer of last year's Commonwealth Games for suspected corruption.
Suresh Kalmadi was held for allegedly buying a time, scoring and result system from a Swiss company at inflated costs as head of the games organizing committee, said Dharini Mishra, spokeswoman for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Kalmadi, she said, would be produced before a trial court Tuesday.
In February, the CBI arrested two other senior officials involved in organizing the 2010 sporting event.
Investigators took into custody Lalit Bhanot, former secretary-general of the organizing panel of the Commonwealth Games that New Delhi hosted in October last year.
Also placed under arrest was V.K. Verma, director-general of the committee.
They were taken into custody for the same suspected over-priced purchase of the Swiss equipment.
The CBI had earlier arrested four other committee executives.
Bhanot and Verma were seen as close aides of Kalmadi, she said.
A series of scandals in 2010 have put Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's government on the defensive.
Politicians, bureaucrats, officials and company executives linked to probes have denied any wrongdoing.
