13 killed in bus crash in the Philippines

(CNN) -- At least 13 people, mainly Iranians, were killed when a bus crashed on a remote twisty road on the Philippine island of Cebu, CNN affiliate ABS-CBN reported Sunday.
Some 39 others were pulled from the wreckage of the bus, lodged in a ravine 20 meters below a cliff side road in Balamban, the affiliate reported.
Rescue operations were still ongoing more than five hours after the crash. At least three more bodies are waiting to be taken out from the site.
A fellow Iranian medical student reached at the Balamban District Hospital by CNN reports that the bus carrying roughly 50 students suffered brake failure while taking the group to a campground for a one day trip.
The curving mountainous roads in the area are known for frequent deadly accidents.
