Pokies review response 'pathetic'

The Federal Government's response to a report on gambling has been labelled "pathetic" and "a disgrace".
The final Productivity Commission report into gambling found poker machines pose greater risks to gamblers than other forms of gaming.
It recommends the Federal Government impose a $1 per bet limit on poker machines, as well as pre-commitment measures - a mechanism that allows gamblers to set time and net loss limits prior to sitting down and gambling at a machine.
The report also found the large tax concessions on gaming revenue enjoyed by many clubs cannot be justified.
The commission handed its report to the Government four months ago and this morning the Government responded by announcing it will set up a joint Commonwealth, state and territory committee to analyse the recommendations.
But Clubs Australia says the proposal to allow gamblers to pre-select betting limits could cost billions of dollars to implement.
