US Airways asks court to solve pilot issue

TEMPE, Ariz., July 27 (UPI) -- US Airways has asked a federal court to resolve differences between two pilot groups that both fly for the company, but under two separate contracts.

The disagreement between America West and US Airways pilots has been dragging on since the 2005 merger, which combined the country's seventh and eighth largest airlines.

The merged company has 4,000 pilots, but two sets of rules for seniority and two separate pay scales.

Executive vice president Stephen Johnson said the company did not want to "take sides," the Arizona Republic reported Tuesday.
