DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Thirty inmates overpowered guards, seized weapons and killed six officers during an overnight prison escape in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, officials said Monday.
Preliminary reports indicate the Interior Ministry officers were killed during an exchange of gunfire, Tass reported. No reports were available about whether any of the escaping prisoners died.
Roads around Dushanbe were barricaded as authorities searched for the escaped prisoners, Tass said. Several sources indicated the prisoners may be heading toward the country's mountains. UPI
